Children today are travelling more frequently and from a younger age than children 30 years ago, TravelMole has reported.

According to research from Teletext Holidays, four years and nine months is the current average age that a child travels abroad for the first time, while the average child has been overseas four times before the age of 10.

In comparison, the average age of a child travelling abroad for the first time 30 years ago was 13.

Victoria Sanders, Teletext Holidays managing director, commented, “Parents are becoming more adventurous than ever before, thinking nothing of travelling with pushchairs, toys and car seats.

“But 30 years ago it was more likely that Brits would pack up the car with tents and camping equipment for a seaside holiday by the coast – or if they were being adventurous get on a ferry to France.”

The most common destinations for family holidays 30 years ago were Cornwall, Devon, Wales, Scotland and Dorset, while the top five choices today, according to the research, are Spain, France, Cornwall, Devon and Greece.
