Having unprotected sex on holiday could be bad for your health as well as your bank balance.
According to The Telegraph, recent research from The Co-Operative Pharmacy found that one in three people have had unprotected sex with a new partner while abroad.
When asked why that had not used protection, a fifth answered that they did not have any condoms to hand, while one in 10 blamed their decision on alcohol.
Pharmacist Lisa McCreesh commented, “On holiday people often get more amorous – we are urging people to remember that condoms provide the most effective protection against STIs.
“If you have had unprotected sex, it is important to get a check-up as you may not show any symptoms.”
Claims as a result of sexually transmitted infections are often excluded on travel insurance policies, meaning that holidaymakers requiring overseas treatment for such a condition may end up having to foot the bill themselves.
