Winter sports enthusiasts are being advised to check that their travel insurance policy covers them for the activities they will be participating in, Travel Weekly has reported.
According to research from ABTA, less than half (41 per cent) of people check that they are covered for hazardous activities, with men and 15-24 year olds even less likely to do so.
As a result, ABTA has teamed up with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to issue tips and advice to those heading to the slopes.
Nikki White, head of destinations and sustainability for ABTA, commented, “A little preparation can help ensure your skiing holiday goes without a hitch.
“It’s not unusual to be out on the slopes for 4-6 hours at a time, yet many people go straight into a ski or snowboarding holiday without doing any training or preparation first.
“Preparing before you go can help prevent injury and ensure you don’t miss out on the fun.”
The FCO’s Lynda St Cooke also added, “We strongly advise anyone hitting the slopes this winter to take out comprehensive travel insurance and make sure you have an up to date EHIC.”
